Meet Yasmine Bennis

Yasmine Bennis is a PhD candidate in International Relations at the Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium. She is currently a visiting researcher at the Human Rights Centre at Ghent University. Her research primarily focuses on the pivotal role of civil society in the fight against impunity in Syria. She investigates the activism of Syrian civil society in exile as well as European actors, in response to crimes committed in Syria since the onset of the conflict in 2011. She is also interested in human (in)security, the security development nexus, migration, and human rights.

Yasmine holds a Master’s degree in international relations from the Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium. Her MA thesis delved into the exceptionalization of migrant camps in Europe, specifically on their institutionalization and normalization. She also has a bachelor’s degree in political sciences and law at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Rabat, Morocco. She speaks Arabic, French, English, and has some proficiency in Spanish.
