Meet Sofie Verclyte

Sofie Verclyte is researcher to KASK & Conservatorium, the school of arts/HOGENT and the Human Rights Centre. She obtained a Master’s Degree in Conflict and Development studies at Ghent University. Prior to her current position, she worked with refugee minors in the Orientation and Observation Centre of Fedasil in Steenokkerzeel.

Currently, she works on the project ‘On Migrating Heritage’, where she collaborates with women from Syria who are displaced to Shatila. By building on insights from the fields of design- and legal anthropology, she explores artistic practices as a narrative in the context of conflict and displacement. It is a practice-based research focusing on the unique role of embroidery practices as a means of storytelling in the domain of justice.
