Meet Lisa Ott

Dr. Lisa Ott is a practitioner and researcher at the intersection of international policy, academia and local practice in dealing with the past (dwp, also referred to as transitional justice), human rights, organizational development and peacebuilding.  She is the Head of the dwp program at swisspeace. Since 2006, her work has been focusing on enforced disappearances and since 2014 on archives and DwP. She has i.a. supported the Prosecutors Office of Colombia, as well as civil society organizations in Egypt, El Salvador and Lebanon on questions related to the preservation of archives. She has been involved in the international Safe Havens for Archives at Risk Program with the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, the Swiss Federal Archive, the International Council for Archives, the European Union and UNESCO since 2016. Between 2010 and 2014, she worked in Colombia and Nepal with the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to support its human rights documentation and monitoring. She has also worked as a research and teaching assistant with the Chair for Constitutional and Public International Law at the University of Lucerne. Her publications include “Enforced Disappearance in International Law”, “Determining the fate of missing persons: The role of archives of for “dealing with the past” mechanisms” and the swisspeace Handbook on Archiving for Dealing with the Past (editor).
