Meet Büşra Cebeci

Büşra Cebeci is a doctoral researcher at the Human Rights Centre of Ghent University and a member of the Justice Visions research group. She joined Ghent University in October 2025 as part of the ERC-funded GROUNDOC project, which explores how grassroots justice actors in aparadigmatic contexts innovate transitional justice practices, particularly through documentation.

Her PhD research examines how women’s organizations in Türkiye document femicide and articulate justice claims. Her research asks how these documentation practices and justice claims can speak to current critiques of transitional justice, particularly by challenging dominant assumptions about transition, state-led mechanisms and the boundaries of the field.

Before joining Justice Visions, Büşra gained experience in the humanitarian and development sectors, including with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Geneva and Welthungerhilfe on the Turkish-Syrian border. In 2023, she also contributed to emergency response efforts following the devastating earthquakes in Türkiye. Her previous work focused on migration, protection, community-based approaches and crisis response in fragile contexts.

Büşra holds an MSc in Peace and Conflict from University College Dublin and a BSc in Psychology, with a special focus on Political Psychology, from Middle East Technical University. Her master’s thesis examined collective memory and transitional justice in post-conflict Lebanon, reflecting her broader interest in how societies and communities respond to violence, memory and justice.
